As flooding becomes more of an issue for more communities and businesses, it’s good to know that innovation is coming to the rescue. FloodSax flood defence bags are providing a real alternative to traditional sandbags when it comes to protecting homes and business premises. They have been adopted by Anglian Water and Scottish Water as part of their emergency response procedures. FloodSax bags have a number of significant advantages over sandbags. Weighing only 7 ounces before activation, they are quick and easy to deploy and in as little as three minutes, they can provide an effective barrier not only to water but even sewage. They are also easy to transport (1 pallet of FloodSax is equivalent to 15 pallets of sandbags) and they have a shelf life of 5 years compared to the 6 months of a sandbag. Anglian Water have incorporated FloodSax into their BS2599 Business Contingency, which won an award at the 2013 Emergency Planning Conference in Glasgow. They are also being used and approved by more 1st line responders and they have been named as a preferred supplier by the MOD and NATO for flood products.

Floodsax are an innovative new alternative to traditional sand bags, the modern day sand bag. They are designed to control and limit flood damage. FloodSax are transformed from being as light as a pillowcase to becoming as tough and heavy as sandbags within minutes. Made of wood pulp fluff and super-absorbent polymer. Once the water is in there, it stays there and the bags act just like sandbags to keep floods at bay. They are designed so they that they mould into doorways to keep flood water out. Easy to transport and quick to deploy! Will absorb up to 22 litres of water per bag.

FloodSax are endorsed by the National Disabled Fire Association (NDFA). They are lightweight, just 200 grams (7 ounces) before they are activated. FloodSax absorb water to become taut weighing 20kg (44lbs) in just over 3 minutes after absorbing 20 litres of water. Can be expanded in water in a bath, a sink, a bucket, a hosepipe or even the flood water. Can be used to divert water away from a building and down a drain. FloodSax expand evenly, unlike other similar products in the market. Easy to store and are vacuum-packed to save even more room. Have them ready in the house all the time for burst pipes or accidental floods. Can be used by people who would not be able to lift sandbags and inflated right next to where you need them. FloodSax are 96% biodegradable by weight.
